Overview
Praise be to Allah and blessings upon His noble Messenger, and upon his family and companions.
It is by the grace and favor of Allah, the Almighty, that He has blessed us with the great blessing of Islam and provided us with a magnificent code of life, unmatched by any other nation. This great code is present with us in the form of the Qur’an.
It is obligatory upon every Muslim to recite the Qur’an correctly, as Allah Himself commands in the Qur’an: “Recite the Qur’an with measured recitation” (i.e., recite it slowly and carefully). To recite with proper rhythm and articulation, it is necessary to be familiar with the rules of Tajweed, such as where to elongate (Madd), where to nasalize (Ghunna), where to conceal (Ikhfa), and where to pronounce clearly (Izhar), among others. Every Muslim has many rights upon this great Book, such as believing in it, understanding it, contemplating its verses, and spreading its message to the corners of the world. Among these rights, a fundamental one is to recite it correctly. Therefore, every effort must be made to recite the Qur’an with Tajweed.
Allah says in the Qur’an: “Those to whom We have given the Book recite it as it should be recited; they are the ones who believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it, they are the losers.” This verse tells us that those who recite the Qur’an correctly and fulfill its rights are the ones who truly believe in Allah. It is extremely important to recite the Qur’an correctly, as incorrect pronunciation can change the meaning. For example, the word (قلب) means heart, but if the letter (ق) is not pronounced correctly, it can become (کلب), which means dog. Thus, incorrect recitation can lead to grave mistakes in meaning, which is a major sin.
On one occasion, the beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared the person who is connected with the teaching and learning of the Qur’an to be the best in the world, saying: “The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”
This course is being introduced to help fulfill the right of reciting the Qur’an properly.
